Lucky Strike Original Red
Marlboro cigarettes are far from being considered the only popular American cigarettes (though they appeared first in England). The older American cigarettes that also have their own interesting history are Lucky Strike cigarettes and it can be said that the story of traditional American tobacco products begins in 1871 together with Lucky Strike.
First Lucky Strike was present in form of chewing tobacco by R.A. Patterson in Richmond, Virginia.
In 1905 R.A. Patterson's Company joined American Tobacco Company. An already in five years products were launched on the market. According to a legend Lucky Strike cigarettes appeared owing to fire that took place in the tobacco warehouse. Owners decided not to throw burnt tobacco but have mixed it with normal tobacco. As result absolutely new flavor was received. In such a way catastrophe has turned a success.
First pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes was of dark-green color.
Branded dark-green pack changed the color in 1942 during World War II under slogan "Lucky Strike Green has gone to war". Company has explained change of the pack with the fact that they used copper and chrome that were necessary during the World War II. In fact pack color was changed to make it more modern, attractive and at the same time patriotic and war became perfect cover for this.

During World War II cigarettes as well as food have made part of soldier's ration. Cigarette companies have sent to front millions of cigarettes free of charge and when soldiers came back home, companies have got hundreds of thousands loyal cigarette consumers. Lucky Strike was one of the most popular brands during the War.
Today Lucky Strike brand may be named classics of tobacco industry. Recognizable design is often met in many American movies making these products practically legendary.
Till 2006 Lucky Strike cigarettes were really cult cigarettes.
However in 2006 they were prohibited for manufacturing and sale on territory of United States.
Reasons of this ban are not quite clear. Whatever the case is, in USA cannot be found these cigarettes anymore.
In 2008 Lucky Strike cigarette have been also prohibited in France. In this case the reason was as follows.
Court has enacted Altadis Distribution Company, the biggest cigarettes distributor in France, to stop deliveries of Lucky Strike cigarettes. Such decision was explained with the fact that cigarettes manufacturer has infringed French Healthcare law. National Committee for smoking control that initiated the process has declared that inscriptions on packs informing that cigarette have refined and subtle flavor represent smoking propaganda. For each sold pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes Seller was penalized in amount of 100 euro. At the same time private entrepreneurs were allowed to sell off the rests of products.
