Winston Super Lights
History begins with 1950's when one of the representatives of R.J. Reynolds Company came back from Switzerland journey. His story has amazed colleagues with unprecedented popularity of filtered cigarettes there. Colleagues considered that for USA where in such form tobacco products were not known cigarettes with filter could become perfect finding.
After the second famous advertising campaign with slogan "What do you want, good grammar or good taste" Winston cigarettes became the most popular brand in USA. For first nine months of advertising campaign were sold 6.5 billion cartons of Winston cigarettes.
Brand hasn't left the pedestal from those times - though RJR were bought by Japan tobacco giant and brand positioning has changed... Only formula remained the same, although not unchangingly strong - "Winston" has yield to general tendency of "lightening" cigarettes. Particular feather in brand's cap till recently was that Winston could declare on the pack that tobacco in cigarettes doesn't have any outside additives. Of course, "without additives" doesn't mean that these cigarettes are safer for health but obviously guarantees tobacco flavor and nothing else. Now there is no such information on the pack - toughening of requirements to tobacco advertisement works and additives began to be considered substances that were not considered such in the past.
In 1960's actor and male model Alan Landers became the face of Winston advertising campaign. He had Winston Man status till 1970's.
