Tobacco sorts classification. Part 2

Latakia Tobacco

It is one of the most famous varieties of Oriental tobaccos that have very specific aroma and saturate flavor. After drying on the sun, Latakia leafs are subject to repeated drying under open fire and acquire typical black color. Tobacco ability to absorb aroma of the fire smoke gives opportunity to provide it with special aroma that depends on the sort of the wood that is used for fire. That is why in Latakia tobacco blends are used, mainly, as flavor and aroma addition as its smoking in pure form is quite unpleasant. It mainly grows in Syria and on Cyprus, and there is considerable difference in flavor and aroma among tobaccos of these two regions.

Perique Tobacco

It is very rare and expensive tobacco that has saturated reach flavor and deep specific aroma that is received in process of tobacco leafs pressing and their ten-months holding in own juice. After fermentation Perique acquires its typical shining black color. It grows only in USA in Louisiana state and is used in tobacco blends in small quantity as spice as to smoke it in pure form is expensive and quite unpleasant.

Kentucky Tobacco

It is variety of Burley tobacco that grows mainly in USA in Kentucky State and also in Malawi. After drying on open air, tobacco leafs, as well as in case with Latakia are subject to repeated drying under the fire after what they acquire unique aroma and dark-brown color. Kentucky tobacco is used in tobacco blends for achieving special original flavor and aroma enrichment with piquant tings.

Cavendish Tobacco

Cavendish is not separate tobacco sort but represents product of special treatment of mixed tobaccos Virginia and Burley. Although every manufacturer has its own secret ground works that make its tobacco blends distinct from other, there are two main methods of Cavendish preparation: tobacco pressing under high temperature with its further holding or special treatment with steam under influence of high temperature. In both cases tobacco acquires dark-brown or black color and becomes more aromatic, mild and sweet on taste. Depending on used Virginia and Burley tobacco varieties, final product has name Black Cavendish or Brown Cavendish. Cavendish is more often used in aromatic and mild tobacco blends.
